I finally got a chance to make Terra, after putting it off for years. I've really been on a Final Fantasy kick, so I figured it was time. I challenged myself to only use materials I had, so it gave me the opportunity to use lots of fabric remnants and random trims to my hearts content. I wasn't looking to be accurate, but rather take inspiration from every version of her (there are SO MANY) and make something really pretty and embellished.
As a side note- as I was finishing my costume, I had a back injury, so I ended up not making her boots, dagger, or sword. For her boots, I planned to make some spats to go over some gold heels I have. The other parts I was hoping to make out of EVA foam or get them 3D printed.
The build:
I had JUST enough stretch velvet for the dress and arm covers, so I had to make it work!! For the dress, I took I tight fitting dress I own, to use as a guide for the silhouette to make a tube dress. I made sure to leave enough sewing allowance, so that it wouldn't be too tight. I then added a strip that was slightly larger (about an inch or so) for the bust. For the gloves/arm covers I measured my wrist and bicep and created a pattern that covered my arm, but ends at a V point over my hand. I finished all the edges with stretch gold using a Hong Kong stitch.
I actually made a video tutorial for HK stitch you can watch here: https://youtu.be/KAUAeqUsltA?si=qJqjJLN3FWPvvIlM
I then took some appliques and flower trims I had and colored them with permanent markers. They turned out so bright and colorful! I love them! I then glued all the flowers onto the dress and gloves, and then further embellished with some rhinestones.
The waist wrap was three strips of different brocades that I sewed together, then gathered at the ends. I also added a little panel on the side out a wide trim I had. I added some embellishments to it, as well as some fringe, then attached it to the waist wrap.
For the cape, I unearthed an old punjabi that my mom gave me and used the scarf part. The fabric is so beautiful and it happened to be the perfect size.
I put together a necklace and attached some rings and a crystal to it. The cape attached to the rings on the necklace and I made some brooches so that it keeps the fabric unaltered (in case I want to use it for something else in the future and for cleaning/traveling)
I did some minor embellishments here and there, but that's pretty much it!
As far as the wig, I just did some minor styling on a ponytail clip wig I had previously used for Panther from Persona. I figured just styling the bangs some, in case I ever want to use the wig again.
I'd love to also cosplay this with the mint green hair ❤️ so pretty!!
I just added some little details from old jewelry and broken bracelets I upcycled, so it turned out better than I expected!
I wanted to get some fancy lace tights, but ended up using some leggings I had. I think a tie dye with really subtle colors would be pretty too!
Here is the final look! I hope you like it and that it gives you an idea for how you can make your own Terra, or some inspo for a future cosplay!
